Hello RMTA Members,
It is hard to believe that school has started and that we are quickly moving through the beginning of September. I am looking forward to seeing many of you at our fall meeting on September 23rd at Immanuel UCC. On the heels of a very spirited and thorough meeting with other presidents from the PMTA the other week, I am eager to share with you some of the ideas and discussion points that came from that conversation, as well as have our own conversation about some of the ways we can continue to support our members and simultaneously grow our organization. I hope that you will attend the meeting, but if you can’t, please reach out to me and let me know how we might engage you and your students this year. Our organization is only as strong as its participating members, and we both need and value your opinions and ideas!
Additionally, it is time to turn our attention to the Dorothy Sutton Performance Festival. I’m especially excited that the state-wide festival will be at Kutztown University this year, since it means that any students who qualify will have an opportunity to perform at that event without the many hours of travel that has accompanied the honor in past years. In my last message, I reminded teachers to begin having the conversation with their students about the DSPF. With only a few responses, it is difficult to gauge what sort of student participation – and consequently how many judges – we might have for the DSPF. Perhaps by now, many of you have a better idea of whether or not you will have students participating and will be able to share that with me either at the meeting or beforehand via e-mail (readingmta2020@gmail.com). You can find updated information about the festival for you and your students on our website. We are in dire need of members to support this festival. To date, nobody has stepped into the Events Coordinator role, which will make organizing and executing the DSPF very challenging. I am asking each of you to consider whether you would be willing to give some of your time either before or during the festival to help us make this event a success.
Finally, I wanted to remind you of the fall dates, with the promise to update the rest of the dates following our meeting in a few weeks. Again, I hope many of you will take the opportunity to join us on September 23rd!
